Thursday 1st March was World Book Day and staff and pupils across Bishop Luffa School came together in spite of the snow and bitter cold to celebrate our love of books. The Library ran events and activities all week from Star Wars papercraft to a big book giveaway, and our ever popular ‘Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner’ competition (many pupils were stumped by the pink umbrella). Pupils also had to comb the school to find teachers with book title or author badges, and match up the pairs to win a prize. Teachers won a bonus treat if they managed to find their partner too! The celebrations ended on World Book Day with a Drop Everything and Read session during registration for staff and pupils alike, and some time to reflect on the value of books and stories to us as individuals and as a society. Pupils were all issued with their £1 book token to spend in their local bookshop and discover a new favourite read.
Congratulations to Wilf Kieran, Veronica Smirnova and Evie Watterson for winning the Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner competition, and Manka Vecsi for winning the Book Pairs competition, and thanks to all who took part in our celebrations!
